One Vision, Many Blessings | Joshua 1 Devotional on Obedience, Faith, and God's Purpose

What happens when one person says yes to God's calling?
In this powerful Christian devotional based on Joshua 1:1-2, we explore how God often places a vision in the heart of one obedient servant so that many others can experience His blessings. From Noah building the ark, to Abraham leaving his homeland, to Joshua crossing the Jordan River, Scripture reveals a consistent pattern:
God gives the vision. The servant obeys. Many receive the blessing.
Drawing from a recent experience at Glenhagen Farm Retreat and the work of the Mersades Ann Foundation, this devotional reminds us that many of the opportunities and blessings we enjoy today exist because someone obeyed God yesterday.
Most importantly, we discover that the greatest Jordan River is the separation that sin creates between us and God, and that Jesus Christ alone makes a way for us to cross from death to life through His perfect obedience, His death on the cross, and His resurrection.
If you're waiting for the perfect circumstances before serving God, this message is for you.

Today's devotional is a From Wrong to Strong Ministries devotional, produced by Light Has Dawned Media. Our scripture today comes from Joshua one, one through two. Now it came about after the death of Moses, the servant of the LORD, that the LORD spoke to Joshua the son of Nun, Moses' servant, saying 'Moses My servant is dead. Now therefore, arise, cross this Jordan, you and all these people, to the land which I am giving to them, this past weekend, I had the privilege of attending an outing at the Glenhagen Farm Retreat in Princeton, Illinois. I spent time fishing with kids, talking with families, as I drove home, I realized God had been teaching me something. He was teaching me about vision. At the retreat, I witnessed two God-given visions in action. The owners of the Glenhagen Farm had a vision to create a place where people could gather, enjoy God's creation, and build meaningful relationships. I also witnessed the vision of my brother, Scott Morgan, and the Mersades Ann Foundation. A vision that is blessing children whose parents are incarcerated by introducing them to experiences outdoors, fishing, and opportunities they may never otherwise have. But as I reflected on all this, I realized something else. None of those blessings appeared overnight. Someone obeyed God when the vision existed only in their heart. And my mind immediately went to Joshua. Notice how Joshua is introduced. Not as a leader, not as a conqueror, the Bible calls him Moses' servant. Before Joshua led a nation, he served faithfully. Before he stood before the people,. He stood beside Moses. Before God entrusted him with influence, He taught him obedience. Whoever wishes to become great among you shall be your servant." Many people want to lead. God first teaches us to serve. That is His pattern Then God speaks to Joshua, Arise, cross this Jordan." The Jordan River was what everyone could see. The Promised Land was what only faith could see, and that is often how God works. Moses planted, Joshua led, but God remained the author of the mission. God often gives one servant a vision that will one day become a blessing to many people. Think about Noah. God gave him a vision of an ark before anyone else saw the flood. Noah obeyed, and generations were saved. Think about Abraham. In Hebrews 11:8, it says, it was by faith that Abraham obeyed when God called him to leave home and go to another land That God would give him as his inheritance. He went without knowing where he was going. God gave the vision, Abraham obeyed, nations were blessed. Think about Joshua. Everyone could see the Jordan River. Joshua believed God's promise. An entire nation entered the promised land. And before they crossed, Joshua told the people in Joshua chapter 3 verse 5, Consecrate yourselves, for tomorrow the Lord will do wonders among you. Obedience often begins long before we see the results. The pattern is consistent throughout scripture. God gives the vision, the servant obeys, many receive the blessing. But none of that happens without obedience. Noah had to build, Abraham had to go, and Joshua had to cross. Faith is not merely believing God's promises. Faith obeys God's commands. In Proverbs 3:5-6 it tells us, "Trust in the LORD with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight." Many of the blessings we enjoy today exist because someone obeyed God yesterday. Someone prayed, someone sacrificed, someone served, someone crossed their Jordan. I was witnessing what God can do when ordinary servants say yes to an extraordinary God. The blessing may begin with one person's obedience, but the glory belongs to God alone. But I want you to hear me today. God can still use you to bless others, even from where you are don't wait until your circumstances change before you begin serving the LORD. Most importantly, the greatest Jordan any of us faces is not a river. It is a separation that sin creates between us and a holy God. Joshua led Israel across the Jordan into an earthly inheritance. Jesus Christ leads sinners across the greatest divide ever created. Philippians two verse eight says, And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross." Jesus obeyed the Father perfectly. He lived the life that we could not live. He died the death that we deserved. He rose again in victory over sin and death. Through repentance, and faith in Him, we can cross from death to life so if you're listening today, don't let what you can see keep you from believing what God has said. Keep seeking God, keep serving God, keep trusting God, keep obeying God. Because the same God who brought Noah through the flood, Abraham into the promise, and Joshua across the Jordan is still leading His people today. Remember this: God often plants one vision in the heart of one obedient servant so that many may experience His blessings. Thank you for joining me today. My name is Omar Calvillo, and through Jesus Christ, I've gone from darkness to light and from wrong to strong.
